The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage published the Q1 2023 Homeless Quarterly Progress Report on 28th April 2023, revealing a concerning increase in homelessness and emergency accommodation usage.
Here are Kelly Bradshaw Dalton’s summary of the findings:
- 11,988 individuals accessed emergency accommodation, a 3% increase from Q4 2022 and a 22% increase year-on-year.
- 1,639 families accessed emergency accommodation, a 3% increase from Q4 2022 and a 32% increase year-on-year.
- Combined total of 1,454 adults and their dependants exited or were prevented from entering emergency accommodation, a 3% decrease from Q4 2022, but a 15% increase year-on-year.
- 676 adults exited emergency accommodation in Q1, a 13% increase compared to the same period last year.
